WEDDING CEREMONIES
Humanist Wedding Ceremonies are simple, meaningful ceremonies written specifically for each couple. Humanist officiants help create simple, non-religious ceremonies, that reflect your wishes, values, and your personal story. Humanist Ceremonies may be ‘traditional’, ‘modern’, ‘creative’ – and even humourous Some couples wish to write their own vows, and to include poetry, reflections, a ‘couple’s story’, and the involvement of family and friends. Some couples are looking for a very simple legal ceremony which emphasizes their commitment to each other, in a short respectful manner.
Each Humanist officiant will discuss your personal ceremony wishes, and offer you some sample ceremonies. We encourage your participation in making decisions about your wedding ceremony, and we listen to your wishes and concerns. We also ensure that the legally required sections of a Ontario Marriage Ceremony are always included, and that proper forms and protocols are followed for your marriage ceremony.
Please also note the OHS Same Sex Marriage Policy
Here are a few sample wedding ceremonies to give you some ideas. Each officiant will have similar ceremonies and collections of resources. This beginning list includes basic legal weddings, multicultural weddings, and weddings with children, and a renewal of vows. We also include some ideas for wedding rituals and traditions, and some selected readings.
