WEDDING CEREMONIES
Humanist Wedding Ceremonies are simple, meaningful, non-religious marriage ceremonies written specifically for each couple, within the required legal framework of the Marriage Act of Ontario. Licensed Humanist officiants help create personal wedding ceremonies that fulfill the requirements of the Marriage Act, and reflect your wishes, values, and your story.
In style, Humanist Ceremonies may be ‘traditional’, ‘modern’, ‘creative’ — and often humourous. Some couples wish to write their own vows, and to include poetry, reflections, a ‘couple’s story’, and the involvement of family and friends. Other couples look for a very simple legal ceremony which emphasizes their commitment to each other, in a short respectful manner.
Each Humanist officiant will discuss your ceremony wishes, and offer you some sample ceremonies, which include required elements and possible variations. We encourage your participation in making decisions about your wedding ceremony, and we listen to your wishes and concerns. We ensure that your ceremony is as personal as possible, within the legally required protocols of a Ontario Marriage Ceremony.

All OHS Humanist ceremonies must include the elements required by the Registrar General of Ontario for Humanist weddings:
Below this template we have included variations; from very simple legal ceremonies (without rings, or readings, or other rituals), to more complex multicultural or romantic ceremonies with additional elements, ceremonies with children, renewal of vows, and other examples. We encourage you to work with your officiant to create a personal ceremony that suits each individual couple best.
